Work has started to bring new homes to the former site of Ravenscraig steelworks with the first plot reserved hours after the homes became available.
Keepmoat Homes, a leading UK homebuilder, has started work on the 10 acre site in North Lanarkshire in order to deliver 111 new homes to the area following planning approval in June 2018.
The development which has been named The Castings, in recognition of the lands former use as a steel works, is expected to be completed in 2021 and will include a mix of two, three and four bedroom homes with prices starting from £179,000. Of the 111 new homes, 11 will be affordable housing which will be administered by North Lanarkshire Council.
As part of this development Keepmoat Homes will be engaging with the local community and supply chain to support jobs and training opportunities for local people.
Beth McNeil, Regional Managing Director at Keepmoat Homes in Scotland said: “Our development at Ravenscraig is part of a larger transformation that is looking to breath new life into this once great hub of industry, by making it the centre of a new community. We’re proud to be working with North Lanarkshire Council to deliver much needed new homes to the area and to be playing our part in this once in a generation transformation.
“It was fantastic to see the demand for new housing in the area, as within hours of launching the new homes to the market we had our first reservation. I look forward to welcoming the new residents to The Castings when the first homes are completed in Autumn 2019.”
